Fairport's Newest Resident

On Sunday night Fairport welcomed it's newest North Country transplant: my niece, Nicole. Nic moved to the Rochester area from outside of Richmond, Virginia, where she had lived with a friend since last August. It turns out that even the awesomely warm weather of Virginia could not keep her from missing her boyfriend, Patrick, and the longing to be a little closer to home.

So, Nic decided Rochester, which is where Patrick is living, was a good compromise for the next stage of her life, and we couldn't be happier! She's now just a couple of miles away from us, and Annalisse and I, in particular, are really glad she can be part of our day-to-day lives. Annalisse is already planning shopping trips and hang time with her.

Nic left behind her banking job, and she has two interviews lined up for this week. One was today, and she thought it went well, and the other is on Thursday. A great start!!

So, welcome, Nic! Just wait until you see what life in Fairport has in store for you!!

The Week that Was

What a news week! Unless you live under a rock, you know there were some pretty important issues in the news this week, all of which I am happy about  - being the bleeding heart liberal that I am! First up, the removal of the confederate flag from buildings in the South (not just South Carolina). After the tragic murder of nine innocent people at a church prayer service in South Carolina last week, the confederate flag became the focus (and has long been the emblem) of white supremacist hatred, seeing such activity as the inspiration for the shooter. While I would love the warmer weather in the South, I'm not sure I can deal with their attitudes. Take down that flag! On Thursday, the SCOTUS decision to uphold provisions of the Affordable Care Act (which others call "Obamacare," but I refuse to call it that...I find it a term derogatorily used by the crazy conservatives). Bakers on the move

The next couple of weeks will find a lot of Bakers coming and going and coming and going, starting with a quick trip down to Rockville, MD for Cam's first in-person job interview. The company seems to contract to government agencies, and with his background,  if he got the job, he might end up at a place like the NIH . One step at a time, though. Please send positive vibes! Our busy week will culminate in Cam's graduation from RIT on Saturday morning (8:30am). I know he's a little stressed trying to finish things up, but the finish line is in sight! After graduation we will go for a nice lunch at Woodcliff, then decide the strategy for moving him home before June 1. Then, a week from tomorrow we bring Annalisse to Toronto for her flight to Italy for her study abroad (studying the Mediterranean diet for two weeks). Then, two weeks after that we will be in Dublin for a week! YAY! Just about everything is set for our trip except the rental car from Dublin to the Cork area
