Happy 4th!

The Fourth of July is such a fun day around Fairport. There's a huge parade at 10am where we see tons of friends before taking our place with our neighbors at the corner of Fourth and West Church . Then, it will be off to Wegmans before (hopefully) A NAP! Mark went fishing today, so when he gets home we'll be heading off to Cheeburger! Cheeburger! in Charlotte to celebrate the end of the school year (Report cards came yesterday - both kids made honor roll with Annalisse beating her brother [by barely a point] with a final average of 91. Sweet justice for her!).

I have a confession to make: I'm probably one of the only people in the world who doesn't like fireworks. I don't mind them from a distance, where I can marvel at their beauty, but up close...too loud, too bright. So I think we'll avoid that scene tonight. We'll probably be able to see some from our porch anyway.

The Week that Was

What a news week! Unless you live under a rock, you know there were some pretty important issues in the news this week, all of which I am happy about  - being the bleeding heart liberal that I am! First up, the removal of the confederate flag from buildings in the South (not just South Carolina). After the tragic murder of nine innocent people at a church prayer service in South Carolina last week, the confederate flag became the focus (and has long been the emblem) of white supremacist hatred, seeing such activity as the inspiration for the shooter. While I would love the warmer weather in the South, I'm not sure I can deal with their attitudes. Take down that flag! On Thursday, the SCOTUS decision to uphold provisions of the Affordable Care Act (which others call "Obamacare," but I refuse to call it that...I find it a term derogatorily used by the crazy conservatives). Bakers on the move

The next couple of weeks will find a lot of Bakers coming and going and coming and going, starting with a quick trip down to Rockville, MD for Cam's first in-person job interview. The company seems to contract to government agencies, and with his background,  if he got the job, he might end up at a place like the NIH . One step at a time, though. Please send positive vibes! Our busy week will culminate in Cam's graduation from RIT on Saturday morning (8:30am). I know he's a little stressed trying to finish things up, but the finish line is in sight! After graduation we will go for a nice lunch at Woodcliff, then decide the strategy for moving him home before June 1. Then, a week from tomorrow we bring Annalisse to Toronto for her flight to Italy for her study abroad (studying the Mediterranean diet for two weeks). Then, two weeks after that we will be in Dublin for a week! YAY! Just about everything is set for our trip except the rental car from Dublin to the Cork area
