Here comes summer! Bring it on!

It's been a while since I've been able to update the blog! A combination of general busy-ness and the fact that the kids are now out of school and monopolizing the laptop makes for a quick-n-dirty (less fat, more filling) blog entry! Here are some quick updates with the promise of a meatier, more thoughtful blog in the next couple of days:

  • We had our street sale and only made enough ($32) for an Applebee's-level dinner out, which we promptly spent on bird food. At least the birds enjoyed a nice dinner out! We sold the crockpot we had gotten for a wedding present (it still works!) for $3 - that was one of the bigger-ticket items. Mark's friend, Scott, did really well with his fishing equipment, though. We closed the sale at noon on Sunday because of soaking, torrential rain.
  • The kids are finally done with school, including finals. Let the boredom begin!
  • On Sunday, Cam leaves for camp where he'll be in a week of training. Then he's home for a week, then gone for three and home on weekends. It seems a little like last summer between the time he spent at camp and his three weeks in Europe.
  • Annalisse will be going to camp for one week and rowing camp for another. Other than that, she doesn't have much planned. Have any little kids that need sitting?
  • I struggle each night to not go get one of those gelato spaghetti and meatball desserts. Give me strength!
  • I'm off for a couple of days during which we'll be spending the day at Seabreeze (Wednesday) and biking to Pittsford (six miles each way) to go to the Coal Tower for lunch (Friday).

Now you're up-to-date with the Bakers! How about taking the dog for a walk so I can take a nap on the couch?

The Week that Was

What a news week! Unless you live under a rock, you know there were some pretty important issues in the news this week, all of which I am happy about  - being the bleeding heart liberal that I am! First up, the removal of the confederate flag from buildings in the South (not just South Carolina). After the tragic murder of nine innocent people at a church prayer service in South Carolina last week, the confederate flag became the focus (and has long been the emblem) of white supremacist hatred, seeing such activity as the inspiration for the shooter. While I would love the warmer weather in the South, I'm not sure I can deal with their attitudes. Take down that flag! On Thursday, the SCOTUS decision to uphold provisions of the Affordable Care Act (which others call "Obamacare," but I refuse to call it that...I find it a term derogatorily used by the crazy conservatives). Bakers on the move

The next couple of weeks will find a lot of Bakers coming and going and coming and going, starting with a quick trip down to Rockville, MD for Cam's first in-person job interview. The company seems to contract to government agencies, and with his background,  if he got the job, he might end up at a place like the NIH . One step at a time, though. Please send positive vibes! Our busy week will culminate in Cam's graduation from RIT on Saturday morning (8:30am). I know he's a little stressed trying to finish things up, but the finish line is in sight! After graduation we will go for a nice lunch at Woodcliff, then decide the strategy for moving him home before June 1. Then, a week from tomorrow we bring Annalisse to Toronto for her flight to Italy for her study abroad (studying the Mediterranean diet for two weeks). Then, two weeks after that we will be in Dublin for a week! YAY! Just about everything is set for our trip except the rental car from Dublin to the Cork area
